Remembering Our Armed Forces

Last weekend we were able to capture a few pictures of Trudy and her two awesome son's, Ethan and Shane. This week Shane's (pictured left) family all said goodbye to him as he headed off to the Army. He is in Kentucky for his basic training and then from there no one is real sure where he will head. I am so proud of the men and women defending our country and our gift of freedom. Could I please ask you to remember Shane and his family in your prayers.

On a side note, the problems with our web site host seem to be corrected. I believe we are getting all of our emails.

Huntington Library

This weekend I was able to enjoy the California sun and head up to the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens which is in San Marino, minutes from downtown Pasadena. It was fun to visit the Library with a camera in hand and it didn't hurt that it was absolutely awesome weather! I think I stopped at every flower and statue, it's no wonder I LOVE Europe! During my visit to the Huntington Library I was remembering an artist I ran into at a few events last year and thought he deserved a mention here in the BLOG. Rich Flynn is a very talented artist who sets up his easel and oil paints your events in the four to five hours it takes place. The guests are truly amazed with this gentleman's talent. Marissa's Magical Smile

This precious little girl is Marissa and last Sunday we enjoyed a wonderful photography session in celebration of her six month birthday. She has the most contagious giggle, warm smile and beautiful eyes.

More Cake

Last night we had the pleasure of meeting with Joyce Manard, the owner of Fantasy Frostings (www.fantasyfrostings.com) in Whittier. I've known Joyce for many years through weddings we had done in the past. This visit to her remote location in Whittier was a little different than my past visits as my daughter, who is now the bride and her maid-of-honor/best woman Rachel were both along to experience Joyce's edible works of art. Joyce is an artist with over 35 years of experience who is dedicated not only to design but to cakes that are a rare delicacy. Joyce’s southern charm and hospitality were an absolute pleasure as we all sat around a large table chatting about Alexis and Sean's August wedding. Joyce attentively listened to the design ideas my daughter had while sketching out the cake of her dreams. During our visit all three of us were presented with four very generous slices of gourmet cake while we enjoyed flipping through the many photos albums of Joyce's past designs. The girls found their favorite cake flavor with the dense white chocolate mouse which had alternating filling layers of bavarian cream and chocolate chips and then fresh raspberries and moose. As for me, the chocolate lover in the group, I thoroughly enjoyed the rich chocolate cake with a filling layer of chocolate moose and bits of toffee. We also sampled a zesty lemon cake with a lemon curd filling and a very moist marbled cake with a ganache filling.

Joyce has a reputation she can be proud of as she has always been the pillar of professionalism which reflects in her always coming through with what she promises and I have never known her to be late to an event. Also, her pricing is so simple as she builds what many of others bakeries claims as "extras" directly into her total price. She travels all over Southern California and only takes so many orders, so if you are looking for a cake designer make your appointment soon.

Thanks again for a wonderful evening Joyce, you made the night an absolute pleasure. Both of the girls just raved about you on the way home. You and your cakes were a hit!
